Interviewers Won't Have Lars Von Trier to Kick Around Anymore

If you were Lars von Trier, how would you handle the fallout from your infamous Nazi comments at the Cannes Film Festival in May? Would you apologize? Would you not apologize? Would you stop speaking to the media? How about all of the above. The 'Melancholia' director says that he'll never again do an interview. However, he didn't just decide this out of the blue -- he had a good reason! Observe: Said the director in a statement: "Today at 2 pm I was questioned by the Police of North Zealand in connection with charges made by the prosecution of Grasse in France from August 2011 regarding a possible violation of prohibition in French law against justification of war crimes. The investigation covers comments made during the press conference in Cannes in May 2011. Due to these serious accusations I have realized that I do not possess the skills to express myself unequivocally and I have therefore decided from this day forth to refrain from all public statements and interviews." It all goes back to the dreaded Nazi comments. Shocking that those comments just don't seem to want to go away. Besides the fact that he'll never do media again, von Trier's statement guarantees that the press junket for his next film will be much less entertaining.
