looking for the name of a movie from the 80s or 90s about a young boy dealing drugs who has a pitbull?

all i can remember is he hides his money in a tin can outside and he
has to hang the pitbull i think he was involved in a murder or
something and the dog would have gave him away so thats why he kils it
but not sure ass must be about 15 years ago i last seen it can anyone
